My name is James, and I founded ElderTrace to provide peace of mind for families and caregivers by ensuring the safety and dignity of those living with dementia. After serving as a Police Officer for 13 years, I had the privilege of helping some of London's most vulnerable people. During this time, I encountered many individuals living with dementia who had become lost and were unable to provide any details about their next of kin. While these individuals were often found and kept safe, it was heartbreaking to know that their loved ones were unaware of their whereabouts and worried sick.
These experiences highlighted the need for a reliable way to quickly reconnect lost individuals with their families, and that's how ElderTrace was born. I used my knowledge and skills to create a small, lightweight, and comfortable wristband that could be worn at all times. The wristband features a QR code and the international symbol for medical alert. When scanned, the QR code provides immediate access to vital information, including emergency contacts and medical details, ensuring that anyone assisting the wearer can quickly reach their loved ones.
Why I Created ElderTrace
What sets ElderTrace apart is my commitment to preserving the dignity and independence of those who wear it. Unlike other devices, our wristband is designed to be worn 24/7 without the need for charging. It's waterproof, discreet, and easy to use. The profile linked to the QR code includes a unique feature: a button that, when pressed, automatically notifies the next of kin by phone, text, and email with the exact location of their loved one. Additionally, a chat console allows direct communication between the person assisting and the family, facilitating immediate and effective support.
Maintaining ElderTrace is not without costs, but I believe the small monthly fee of £3 is a worthwhile investment for the security and peace of mind it provides. I am committed to raising awareness about ElderTrace and work tirelessly to educate local police forces and emergency services about this essential tool. My goal is to ensure that every individual living with dementia has the opportunity to stay safe while maintaining their independence.
